Ok Bungalow is small family-run resort located at Wok-Tum Bay, at the west side of Koh PhaNgan, just 5 minutes away from the main port town of Thong-Sala.
This resort is a fine example of how koh-PhaNgan used to be and feel like.
The bungalows tend to be simple, and the facilities modest, but there are other factors that more than makes up for it; The prices, both for food and accomodation are quite cheap and every bungalow has its own uniqueness and character; The atmosphere is informal and laid-back with some people staying for long periods of time, and the location is excellent . The thing that makes this resort feel like a home is the "mama", which is quite a character, and an excellent cook.
The resort is built on a gentle slope that goes down to the beach, and a small path winds between the bungalows and the lush tropical vegetation.
There is a variety of wood, straw or brick bungalows with A/C or fan, which are generously spaced through the grounds; Some located right on the beach, and others surrounded by the thick vegetation.
Most of the bungalows have 1 or 2 beds, while one of the air-conditioned rooms have 3 beds, and is recommended for families or a small group of friends.
There are also some small houses for weekly or monthly rent, which are quite popular and offer great value for money.
The restaurant offers a wide range of Thai or western dishes for very affordable prices, and it is worth to sample whatever the "mama" recommends.
Next to the restaurant is a spacious lounge area which is partly surrounded by palm trees and other tropical plants and has a unique feel to it.
It has a wooden floor, and is equipped with a TV set, stereo, small library, and many pillows, thai cushions, matresses and hamocks. It is the perfect place for spending the day in leisure, reading a book, having a snack, looking at the nature outside or listening to music.
Other services include Internet access, laundry, motorbike rent and basic travel services. The friendly staff will ba happy to advice and assist you with any questions about the island and sometimes they can even let you use their small boat.
OK Bungalow resort is located at the serene Wok Tum Bay, a 5 minutes drive from the main port town of Thong Sala.
This area was left largely untouched and undeveloped, and offers scenic views of the sunset over the ocean.
A sunset walk along the beach is highly recommended, as there are long stretches of beach with no resorts or people, and the nature is spectacular.
Since the coral reef is quite wide, swimming conditions are not optimal, especially during the low season (May-November).
The resort is easily reachable from the main port town of Thong Sala, and its central, connected location is great for exploring other parts of the island.
Motorbikes can be hired from the resort, but if you don't want the bother, taxis pass frequently on the road outside.
OK Bungalow resort is recommended to those who seek a quiet, affordable place with a special old-school island atmosphere in a scenic setting.
