Amsterdam Bar Resort is located on a steep hill very close to the beach, and offers breath-taking views of the ocean, the neighbouring islands and islets, the coastline that stretches from Thong-Sala to Haad-Yao, and the jungles and hills around.
A small number of cozy suites are situated spaciously along the hill, among large boulders, tropical trees and lush vegetation. Some of them look as if they were taken out of a children's ferry tale. The suites have large windows and glass-doors, which makes it easy to enjoy the magnificent views while comfortably laying in bed.
All the suites have spacious balconies, half open and half shaded, with scenic views of the ocean and the jungle.
The restaurant at Amsterdam Bar Resort is located at the top of the hill and is one of the best and easily accessible view points on the island, offering scenic vistas of the coastline and the ocean throughout the day.
It is a unique spot to watch the sunset, much different then watching it while laying on the beach, because of being at the same time close to the ocean and still moderately high above it.
The restaurant area features large mats, low-tables, thai cushions and hammocks, and is the perfect spot to pass the day leisurely, reading a book, taking a nap, listening to the chilled-out music that flows from the speakers, talking to friends and fellow travelers, improving your tan on the open platform, or looking at the constantly changing colors of the ocean.
Even when it's dark, Amsterdam bar's restaurant offers a very special view of the ocean, with the moon reflecting in the water and the horizon dotted with fishing boats carrying large lamps to lure the fish.
The menu offers a variety of western and thai food for very reasonable prices and the green curry is one of the best on the island.
One of the elements that make Amsterdam bar such a great place is the warm-hearted and friendly service. The owner and manager, Mister wang, is one of the nicest people that we've met, and will ensure all your needs are met.
Amsterdam Bar Resort is located at Ao Plaaylaem, 5 minutes drive north of Thong-Sala, the main port town, and is easily accessible by taxi, motorbike or even by foot.
The beach is just 5 minutes walk away, and if you want to enjoy one of the best white-sand beaches on the island, Haad-Yao (long beach) is a mere 10-15 minutes drive.
